Moving house can be an extremely demanding task and many people suffer great deal of anxiety, worry and stress at some stage during the relocation process. To ensure that everything goes according to plan on the big day, it may be worth taking note of these tips to ensure that your moving adventure runs as smoothly as possible.

1. Packing and Boxing
A good time in which to start packing all of your things is around two weeks before the moving day. This is advised because as it nears closer, the prospect of packing in a mad rush will make you even more stressed whereas you can avoid this sudden rush of anxiety by starting the packing process well in advance. Make sure to label all of the boxes to remind you of their contents. Some people even label boxes with what room they should be in to let the movers know exactly where to place them when they bring all of your packed boxes into your new home.

2. Re-Direct your Mail
You don’t want your mail to be read by complete strangers, so to avoid this (and possible identification fraud), it is important to alert the post office of your move and have your mail re-directed to your new address. Make sure to do this well in advance to avoid any missing mail long after your move.

3. Let People/Organizations Know
When you move it can be easy to forget to notify certain people in your life about your change of address. You must contact your bank, doctor, schools and other relevant organizations and alert them of your circumstances so that they are kept up to date with your change of address in case of emergencies. This also goes for any subscriptions you may have for a magazine or newspaper. Simply cancel or give them a different delivery address so that you don’t end up paying for a magazine that you never receive.

4. Hiring a Removal Company
There are hundreds of different removal companies dotted about the country which means that your choices are endless. It is important that you choose the right moving company to suit your needs. Some removal services have unusual ‘restrictions’ in terms of what items they are willing to move and which items they aren’t. For this reason, make sure that you read the small print to ensure that you hire the right removal service.

5. Explore the Area
Sometimes people can be so overwhelmed and happy about the prospect of moving into their new home that they forget to do their research and to explore the area that they have decided to move to. It is a good idea to find out where the nearest schools and supermarkets are. If you have pets then make sure that you know where the nearest vet clinic is as well as your nearest hospital and optician etc.

6. Investigate the House
The house may look perfect to the naked eye but before you move in for good, it is worth taking some time to explore the house and ask the previous owner as many questions as possible. You will need to know certain things such as which day of the week the bins will be collected and where the electricity meter is etc. Make sure that the radiators and boiler works too and don’t be afraid to grill the seller with your questions because it will soon be your house and you need to know what to expect so that you can be better prepared for any future problems that may arise.
